"Scanning is the easy part." Consumer scanner apps stop at OCR; Paperless-ngx and DEVONthink hold the organization in their own databases, so leaving the tool means leaving the organization behind. Metadata embedded in the files themselves — surviving tool changes indefinitely — is a genuine gap ("the part nothing else covers") for a moderate, niche need: household archives that stay searchable.
